Election-related info...
I just received the following info from my friend Bev at Palmtree Pottery

Hi Everybody,
The decline in Oshawa, since Ed Broadbent was the member of parliament, is appalling. That's one of the reasons we moved to Port Hope. The Oshawa downtown is a disgrace and will continue to be until a strong voice is elected. Sid Ryan is the ONLY candidate who has a hope of saving those GM jobs. If those jobs are lost you can bet the decline will continue. Things will be even worse. Sid Ryan will fight like a bull dog to save those jobs and even create more jobs. I've seen him in action during my days at CUPE, when I worked at Darlington. I've been friends with him since 1986 and I can tell you Sid is accessible. If you have a problem you can count on him to look into it. If you have a good idea you can bet he'll promote it.
Last time Oshawa elected a candidate who disappeared as soon as the votes were counted. In the past 2 years NOTHING was accomplished. This time please vote and when you do please consider voting for my friend Sid Ryan www.sidryan.ca
Bev Graham
P.S. If Sid Ryan wins we'll consider opening a branch of our "way cool gift store" in downtown Oshawa!
**Please forward this email to your Oshawa friends and family.

Automotive Museum Links!
I am proud to say that here in Oshawa we must have one of the best Automotive Museums in the world! Not that I've really bee n to a heck of a lot of them or anything, but I must say it's definately one of the most impressive collections of antique cars I have ever seen with other interesting surprises hidden in various nooks and crannies too!

A Google search led me to several listings including these....

My dad adored antique cars and I'm sure he would have loved this place if he were still alive to see it now. Even the gift shop is pretty amazing. I especially like those handmade wooden model cars they have for sale there. One of these days I want to go back and take some pictures to post in here, however I STILL haven't figured out how I'm going to "loaderize" the ones I took in Pittsburgh from disc to Photobucket account. If there's anyone who lives in the neighbourhood who could take the time to show me how, I'd be very grateful as I tend to be more of a visual/hands-on kind of learner.

The Closest Thing Oshawa has Ever Had to a Carousel
Cross-posted to oshcomm,carouselmagic and _ewetopia_

Back around the turn of the century, this glorified swing, known as the "Ocean Wave" provided fun for people at Lakeview Park Beach.

Introductory Post!!!

Hello, this is Margaret Franklin, your moderator, otherwise known to most of you in the LJ world as beetlebomb!

For starters I thought I'd post a picture from my time with the Oshawa Little Theatre's production of "Hello DOlly". The lady in green is Carol who played Mrs. Molloy. I'm the one in the yellow with the big red feather boa, as "Ernestina".

My husband Dave has lived in Oshawa all his life and lived in this house for at least 15 years before we met. He works for Lear Seating where they make car seats for General Motors and other companies. I am basically self-employed, making dolls, puppets, etc. and hand-embroidered T-shirts. You can see examples of my work at http://margaretfranklin.netfirms.com

I love to tell the story of how we met. Before we met, I was living in Toronto and I had just released my own CD. He was one of only two people who had ordered it after seeing me promote it on "Speaker's Corner"! The rest is history.
